Squire to celebrate 245th anniversary and unveil strongest padlock yet at MLA Show

Squire will be celebrating 245 years of lock making excellence, lifting the covers off its newest padlock innovation and showcasing its smart access control system at this year’s MLA Show on stand H1.25.

Not only will attendees to the stand be able to discover Squire’s rich history, but also discover the SS100 LEV 5, an enhanced version of ‘the world’s strongest padlock’ the SS100CS and witness the brand’s inigma smart wireless access control system in action.

Squire has been manufacturing in the West Midlands since 1780, when William Squire began making padlocks as well as door and cabinet locks. Since that time, Squire has supported the British Army in the Napoleonic Wars and World War Two, while continuing to grow the business into the recognised global brand and industry leader it is today.

The company has passed down through eight generations to its current CEO John Squire, who has overseen some of the biggest shifts and technological advancements from the company.

At the MLA Show, visitors to Squire’s stand will have the chance to discover more about Squire’s rich manufacturing history, as well as get up close and personal with its newest padlock.

The SS100 LEV 5 padlock receives an SR5 rating from the LPCB (Loss Prevention Certification Board), making it the first and only padlock to have ever achieved this rating.

The new world’s strongest padlock, the SS100 LEV 5, builds on its predecessor with the addition of Tungsten Carbide armouring. This gives the padlock incredible anti-angle grinder properties, making it the perfect security solution for critical national infrastructure and other highly secure environments.

Boasting a 20mm boron hardened steel closed shackle and 100mm hardened steel lock body – both infused with tungsten carbide – the SS100 LEV 5 builds upon Squire’s 245-year reputation for manufacturing high-quality, high performance security solutions.

Elsewhere on the Squire stand, MLA Show attendees will be able to discover inigma, Squire’s smart access wireless control system, which uses encrypted communication to control access to connected padlocks and cylinders.

With a Level 3 BSI™️ Kitemark for Secure Digital Applications (SDA), the highest possible grade unaccomplished by any other system, inigma provides a smart, highly secure security solution for a range of business uses.

Ideal for securing critical infrastructure and remote site locations, inigma allows users to give and revoke access and view comprehensive audit trails using the inigma app on a phone, tablet or desktop.

John Squire, CEO, explains: “We are looking forward to celebrating two milestones with attendees to the MLA Show. For 245 years, my family has focused on creating quality padlocks suitable for a variety of uses – from securing areas of the home to national infrastructure.

We are pleased to introduce the SS100 LEV 5 to the Squire range, which further demonstrates our commitment to quality and ensuring that we’re at the forefront of security accreditations.

Through my time as CEO of Squire, I have seen the security industry shift in many different ways, from how padlocks are tested to the introduction of smart security options, such as our inigma system. I am pleased that we have been able to keep our fingers on the pulse of innovation to move with the industry and keep our customers supplied with the quality solutions they require.”

Visit Squire at stand H1.25 across the three days of the MLA Show to speak to the team about their security offerings and join in with their anniversary celebrations.

Keep-mounted sensor expands smart security

Keep-mounted sensor expands smart security

Locksmiths and installers can now offer smart-compatible hardware for more entry points around the home than ever before with Yale’s expanded range of SensCheck™ compatible door and window locks.

As part of this expansion, Yale has launched a new keep-mounted SensCheck™ sensor, which is compatible with the Lockmaster AutoEngage and Lockmaster 28mm. This innovation ensures that every lock sold is smart-compatible, eliminating the need for modifications, simplifying installation, and allowing fabricators to offer advanced smart compatible security with ease.

SensCheck™ now extends coverage of smart-compatible products across a wider range of entry points, including composite doors, PVCu doors, side doors, bifold doors, PVCu casement windows, and aluminum windows.

Additionally, SensCheck™ window sensors are now compatible with Mustang window locks, alongside Yale’s Shootbolt and Rapide window locks. This enhanced compatibility makes it even easier for fabricators and installers to integrate smart security solutions into both PVCu and aluminium windows.

Benefits for Homeowner

With SensCheck™, homeowners can be notified via the Yale Smart Living Alarm App if their doors are open or closed, locked or unlocked, and whether their windows are open, locked, or vented.

The system also sends alerts to users, via the app, if doors or windows are tampered with and offers full or partial arming options when used with a Sync Alarm Kit, depending on user preferences. A Geofencing feature allows users to receive alerts on their smartphone or smartwatch if any doors or windows are open or unlocked as they leave their home.

The range has been BSI Kitemark-accredited for IoT security, providing reassurance that it functions securely and reliably as part of an interconnected home, and is Secured by Design-approved, supporting the UK police initiative to improve home security through robust security solutions.

Brett Evans, Technical Director at Yale, comments: “Smart technology is exploding in the UK, with online searches leaping from 160,780 in 2023 to 247,940 in 2024, and 79% of potential home movers now saying they want their next home to be a smart home.”
